Cowhide Care 101: Keeping Your Rug Soft and Stylish
Cowhide rugs add a touch of natural beauty and sophistication to any space. But unlike some delicate textiles, cowhide is surprisingly low-maintenance!
Cowhide rugs are naturally durable, long lasting and rarely stain as most spills never penetrate the hide.
Keeping Your Cowhide : Easy Care Tips
Here's some easy tips to care for your stunning cowhide rug:
- Do not steam clean.
- Vacuum regularly like any other rug. Best practice is to vacuum in the direction of hair.
- Shaking rug out from time to time helps loosen any debris that vacuum misses.
- Dried spills can be scrapped off with butter knife, followed by vacuuming.
- Liquid spills should be blotted up quickly, and dry with clean cloth.
- Do not ever saturate cowhide with water intentionally for cleaning.
- Spot clean with white vinegar and water. Blue Dawn also works well for messier spot cleaning.
- Over time cowhide may curl near edges when placed in hot or sunny location. This is normal for any hide. Not to worry, dampen with a little water and place a book or heavy object on top until dry.
