So, a while back, I came up with this idea for using a vintage horse collar. If you know me you know I can look at things in a fresh way! Being able to find interesting and unique ways to incorporate old pieces into anyone’s decor is my gift. I had my Grandfather’s old horse collar and I wanted to get it out of the weather so I decided to turn it into a towel holder in the bathroom. Luckily, my vintage horse collar cleaned up really well with white vinegar, water, and a bit of elbow grease. And I love the character it adds to the room not to mention the functionality!
Decorating with antiques and vintage pieces creates warmth in a home. You just have to think outside the box a little to find functional and interesting ways to add these into your decor. There is always a good story to tell and sweet memories to share with visitors when you decorate with remnants of the past!
Here are a few other ideas to "Pop a Collar":
Inserting a mirror can make a great entryway statement.
Create a bookshelf in a man cave or gentleman’s office? This is a masculine way to dress up your rustic space with something unique.
Lastly, what about a horse collar “wreath”? There are so many places this could be used for a touch of rustic style. A vintage horse collar wreath works perfectly in an entryway, back door/mudroom area, or how about, over a bed with equine photos. You could easily switch out the greenery or florals seasonally for a fresh look or even add a small sign!
